Summer’s over and so are your excuses for buying flimsy sundresses. Fall is around the corner, and that means the expensive holiday season is upon us. If you want to make sure to make the best use of your wardrobe as well as your budget, read on to find out what investment pieces are and how you should shop for them.
Basics
One of the first things I bought at the end of summer was a new black blazer. My go-to was starting to look a little worn so I decided it was time for an update. Why is this an investment piece? It’s a high quality piece that I expect to be wearing a lot. My office is pretty casual, and this is the kind of blazer that can go with jeans as well as a skirt. The best part? I can wear it over all those cute blouses I was wearing throughout the summer.
Another thing you’re going to need is a coat. Now this depends on what you already have. Personally, I like to have two options. One is a fitted leather jacket, and another is a longer option, usually some kind of wool blend. When it comes to these longer coats, I’m a big fan of the fit and flare type model. I know it’s not exactly a 2016 type of thing, but hey, it works for me. If you can’t find something like that, just get something that ties at the waist. Looks good on everybody.
If you do buy something like this and you want it to last more than one season, make sure you pick either a neutral color, or one that you know works extremely well against your skintone and that you love.
Accessories
This all depends on your style, but some people swear by scarves. It’s really the easiest way to make any outfit look fall-proof.
The best thing about fall though? Boots! Now I’m not much of a trendwatcher or anything, but I have to say: I’m exstatic the over-the-knee boot hasn’t gone anywhere. I’ve also noticed the block heel is coming back. Not a fan. But I understand its practical benefits. So if that’s your thing, hey… So in order not to overdo it on the shoes, get your essentials, your investment pieces in not too bizarre colors. Black and brown is always good, maybe a nice navy color.
So these are the essentials you can throw over or pair with a lot of different summer outfits to transition them into fall. Also, these will last you a couple of years, so that’s always a nice bonus.
